Pool Backwash: Where It Can Legally Discharge in Brisbane

Backwashing to the wrong place will earn you a fine from Brisbane City Council and a call from your neighbour. Here's the compliant setup.
Sewer Discharge
Legal in Brisbane provided there's a dedicated tundish connection to sewer. Requires a licensed plumber and a Form 4.
Garden Discharge
Small volumes to your own garden are OK if not causing runoff to a neighbour or stormwater. Not suitable for salt pools.
Stormwater Discharge
Illegal in most cases — chlorinated pool water kills waterway life. BCC fines start at $650.
Recommended Setup
A tundish with air gap to sewer is the safest, most flexible option. Costs $480–$680 supplied and fitted for most Brisbane installations.
