Recirculating Hot Water Pumps: Worth Installing in Brisbane?

If your hot water system is at one end of the house and your ensuite at the other, you're pouring litres of cold water down the drain every morning. A recirc pump fixes that — but only if the numbers stack up.
Traditional Loop System
Requires a return line back to the HWS. Best installed during a build or renovation. Instant hot at every tap.
Retro-fit Under-Sink Pumps
No return line needed — use the cold line as the return path. Cheaper install but slight temp mix on the cold side for 30 seconds after use.
Payback
Water saved: 15,000–25,000L a year for a large home. Electricity added: $30–$60 a year for a smart pump. Comfort win, water bill win, energy neutral.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do they work with gas continuous flow?
Only with brands that support recirc mode (Rinnai Infinity Plus, Rheem's Continuous Flow Series). Ask before installing.
